What the new year brings

A new year brings new work and also has me looking back at 2018. Last year ended on a high note, as I booked a co-star role on Season 3 of Disney Channel’s popular series, And Mack. I spent three fun-filled and cold days on set shooting episode 18 the week before Thanksgiving. Keep and eye out for the air date this spring. I also ended the year with a couple commercials and internet ads to be released this month.

So what does 2019 hold for Charla Bocchicchio? I and thrilled to be once again working with writer/director Lori Lyle (Glass Cages), on her first feature length film, Permittted, shooting this spring. I will also have the pleasure of working along side William Nichol (Perfect Cowboy) again in this one. Stay tuned for more on this project. It’s going be great.

Also on the horizon, a short Film I starred in last year, Walter Mecham’s, Envelop(e), is being expanded into a feature length film! We will head back into production in a few months, as we have more of the story to tell now. I’m so excited about this project. Every once in a while a meaty role comes along that gets your juices flowing. The role of Amy is that for me. I can’t wait for audiences to see this film.

Lastly, this month I begin work, starring in a new pilot called, A Space Journey, where I get to play sci-fi villian, Morea.

Excited for a busy and fruitful 2019!  Hopefully I will run into some of you at Sundance later this month.

Cheers

Spring Update

Spring has sprung and I have been a busy actor!  It seems that since January, 2016 rolled around, I have been working non-stop.  Here are some of the highlights from the last couple months; I booked a co-star role on Steven Soderbergh's HBO fim, Mosaic. That was a great day on set and, as always it is so nice working on a full SAG project.  They take extra good care of talent! During much of Febuary, I was busy shooting two film projects; a short called,The Mother Wound, in which I played the mother.  It was a great script and a fun character.  And a feature film, called 1 vs 100, in which I played a major supporting role of Susan Tarkofsvky.  Susan cried a lot!!!  I don't think there was a single scene I shot for that film in which Susan is smiling.  Very intense stuff!

In the midst of those projects, I booked and recorded several voice-over jobs, in addition to a wonderfully funny Game of Thrones Parody for VidAngel. This internet spot is now availabe to watch here: https://www.facebook.com/VidAngel/videos/541667002684502/

This week I will be shooting a commercial for Cricket Wireless which will be airing as a mother's day campaign.  It is a wonderfully written and wickedly funny spot!

In addition to my acting work, this has been a great time for many of my private students.  I am currently working with two young actresses that have also secured reprentation in LA and are going back and forth to auditions for Disney Channel TV shows and movies, as well as other major projects in Hollywood.

So, here's to a contunued busy spring!!

CHANGES TO WEEKLY WORKOUT CLASS

I wanted to share with all of you some exciting news about classes.  Starting in November, I am adding theatrical (Film & TV) auditioning to our Weekly Workout class on Tuesday nights.  Just to be clear, by “theatrical” I am talking about film & TV work, NOT stage!  There are several differences, as many of you know, between commercial and theatrical auditions.  They each merit their own class time and I have found a way to do it.    Here’s how it will work:

  • Class time and place are the same: Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30pm at The Actors Workshop
  • I will alternate the focus of class every week between commercial and theatrical auditions
    • November 3: Commercial
    • November 10: Theatrical
    • November 17: Commercial
    • November 24: Theatrical

 . . .  and so on . . . . through December.

  • In January, I will assess whether or not to give each class its own class time every week, in which case, Tuesday would be the Commercial Weekly Workout and Wednesday would be the Theatrical Weekly Workout.

Hopefully this makes sense.  I am excited to start working with you all on your theatrical auditions, including cold-reading techniques, listening, staying in the moment, making bold, effective choices, and more!  I will bring film and television audition sides each week for you to work on in class, but you are welcome to bring your own if you are preparing for an audition that week and need feedback.  As always, you will have access to your work on-camera from class each week.

Charla is featured in "Act Like a Child" magazine

This month's digital issue of Act Like A Child

Don't miss this months's issue of "Act Like a Child".  I have an article published in it about whether or not acting classes for very young actors is neccessary.  Take a look . . .

Page 19 / My Article

Page 31 / My Ad

Really?

ACT
Like A Child MAGAZINE 2014

ACT-LikeAChild.com

My child is 5 ....

Do they really

need an acting

class?

by Charla Cochran

I used to say NO, they are only 4 or 5 years old. But then, I noticed the same 10-20 kids booking all the commercials in that age category. I talked to some session and casting directors who said,“Some kids know what to do and some do not. Kids who are confident book jobs!”

Now my answer is a resounding YES!!! On camera commercial classes will help develop confidence in your child, through the information they will learn in class.. They will learn how to talk to the camera, stand on their mark, and know where to look, which may seem like small things, but can make a big difference in an audition or a callback. Just learning the rules of the audition game will give them the confidence they need to relax and be more comfortable when they walk into that room without you. Knowing what to expect is important for young kids.

A good, basic, fun but informative class is all that a 4-6 year old needs to give them a competitive edge. Those who are more shy may need to take it more than once to get them more comfortable. Overall, it is a small time and fi- nancial commitment that can bring a huge return on your investment. Even if they don’t become Dakota Fanning, they will have learned some valuable skills; how to listen tp instruction, play well with others, have confidence

and communicate more effectively. Who cannot use that in life?

Actor Breakthrough!

An actor that I coach privately made a major breakthrough this week in our session when she played her monologue as herself, truly "living" the experience and using her instincts in each moment. It's a beautiful thing to observe! Watching an actor just be themselves in that imaginary circumstance . . . suddenly it seems effortless, connected and emotional. Why do we actors try to make it harder than it needs to be? sigh . . . so proud of her for finally making the connection.
